About LARISSA GRAY
Larissa credits her artistic inspiration in part to her childhood spent surrounded by the natural beauty of the Australian bushland in rural Sydney, NSW (and in part to just being a human existing in the world). Graduating from the National Art School in 1996 with a focus on photography and sculpture, her journey took her around Australia and abroad before she embarked on a unique career working with animals.
After finding her place in Kyneton, Victoria, in 2015, Larissa fully embraced her calling to the art world. From 2020-24, she was a member of the Little Gallery, a long-standing artist run gallery in the Central Victorian Highlands, established in 2012. In 2024 Larissa along with fellow local female artists Llael McDonald and Freya Maclaren formed the Highlands Artist Collective. Intended as a means to support, empower, and elevate each other within the visual arts community, their mission is also to highlight the unique perspective that women bring to the artistic conversation. With belief in the power of collaboration The Highlands Artist Collective is proof that when women support women, artistic innovation flourishes.
Throughout her career, Larissa has earned recognition as a selected finalist in numerous Australian art prizes and has received multiple awards and grants. Notably, she will be represented at the 2024 Affordable Art Fair in both Sydney and Melbourne. She was the WINNER of the 2023 Yarra Valley Arts Sculpture Award Prize, she received Highly Commended and the People’s Choice Award at the 2023 Newstead Arts Hub’s ‘It’s a Small World Sculpture Prize’. In 2019, a grant from the Macedon Ranges Shire Council led to the creation of a unique cast bronze triptych, now on permanent display at the Tokai Cultural Arts Centre in Japan. Her achievements also include winning the Ron Anstley Big Hearted Award at the 2018 LOT 19 Spring Sculpture Prize. Her art has found a place in private collections around the world.
